SQL Server Management Studio
SSMS is the user interface to connect to SQL Server engine.
Connecting to SSMS
Follow the below steps to connect & work with SQL Server.
Step 1: Click on Start button — All programs — Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2008 R2/2012 — SQL Server Management tudio
The following window appears.
Step 2: Select the Server type as Database Engine — Select the server name and click on connect.
Step 3: Click on New Query — Select the database — Write the query — Click on Execute(F5)
My First Query:
SELECT * FROM HumanResources.Employee
Please do not execute this query in your SQL Server. You will get the error if the AdventureWorks database is not in your server.
I have written this query just to show you the UI after executing a small query. For time being just see the data fetched by the query, time taken by it and number of rows fetched in the below screenshot.
Do not worry about AdventureWorks database. I am going to discuss about it in my next article
